Rehydrate and rebuild your skin with this one-two punch

If your skin is dry and aging, increasing a single dietary supplement could increase hydration and elasticity. Even if you’re in your 80s.

A German study found that taking Pycnogenol produced younger-looking skin with fewer wrinkles. This was especially true in women who initially had dry skin.

Pycnogenol is an antioxidant extract from the bark of the French Maritime pine tree. It works by increasing hyaluronic acid in the skin. Hyaluronic acid binds to water, making the skin tighter and smoother.

Over time, skin shows signs of aging due to the gradual breakdown of collagen and elastin. This study (and many others) shows that you can rebuild your skin and make it healthier no matter how old you are.

The researchers examined 20 healthy women between the ages of 55 and 68. Prior to giving the Pycnogenol, they measured skin hydration, skin elasticity, and skin fatigue using non-invasive biophysical methods. Then they gave the participants 75 mg of Pycnogenol® per day for 12 weeks. And took the same measurements again after the 12 weeks.

But that’s not all they measured. They also took small skin biopsies to assess gene expression of HAS-1, COL1A1, and COL1A2. The Pycnogenol elevated COL1A1 by 29% and COL1A2 by 41%. It also increased hyaluronic acid production in skin by 44%.

The nutrient also enhanced skin elasticity by 25%. But the biggest improvements were in women with dry skin. Their hydration improved by 21%, compared to 8% in those with more normal skin. The Pycnogenol also reduced skin wrinkles by 3% and increased skin smoothness by 6%.

It’s not often you find results like this from an oral supplement. They truly are remarkable. Pycnogenol is a very powerful nutrient; one you should include in your daily supplement regimen. But it’s not all you should do for your skin.

Remember, your skin is your first line of defense against many health problems. It’s your largest organ and it works hard to keep you healthy. When it’s not healthy, it’s usually an indication that something is wrong inside as well. So it’s vital you eat right, exercise, and take supplements to keep your entire system in great shape. Pycnogenol should be one of the supplements you can take.

But you also need to take extra measures to protect your skin. Using the right topical skin products adds to Pycnogenol’s effectiveness. I’ve seen miraculous changes in myself and in other women using Système 41 skin care products. So I recommend all women use it to keep their skin healthy and looking great.
